Bacterial Exchange/Cell, Jan. 12, 2017 (Vol. 168, Issues 1+2) Bacteria can exchange their membrane proteins through extracellular vesicles. Sigal Ben-Yehuda and her group from Jerusalem University show that phages take advantage of this exchange and infect resistant bacteria that are cocultured with sensitive bacteria.
