ICES research video series: Dr. Sacha Bhatia on preoperative blood tests before low-risk surgeries

A new study from the Institute for Clinical Evaluative Sciences and the Women’s College Hospital Institute for Health Systems Solutions and Virtual Care (WIHV) in collaboration with Choosing Wisely shows that unnecessary blood tests are common prior to low-risk surgery, with high variation between hospitals. In fact, depending on which hospital you go to for your low-risk surgical procedure, you may be 2.4 times more or less likely to be sent for unnecessary blood tests.
