Caveolae Are Stress Sinks for Membranes

Caveolae Are Stress Sinks for Membranes - Latin for "little caves," caveolae are small folds in the plasma membrane associated with endocytosis. Now Christophe Lamaze and colleagues outline a new function for caveloae—they flatten in response to mechanical stress, providing a buffer against rapid changes in membrane tension.
