Extrinsic Cues in Neuronal Polarity - Is the site of axon emergence determined by intrinsic neuronal polarity or the local environment? Bill Harris and colleagues have found that laminin at the basal surface of the retina is necessary and sufficient for the directed polarization of RGCs, suggesting a critical role for extrinsic cues.
