Multiple Roles for Oligophrenin at the Synapse

Multiple Roles for Oligophrenin at the Synapse - Linda Van Aelst and colleagues discover that the X-linked mental retardation protein OPHN1, known for its role in modulating basal synaptic strength, is also essential for mGluR-LTD. Rapid synthesis of OPHN1 in response to neural activity can trigger a chain of events that results in decreased surface expression of AMPA receptors and triggers LTD.
