Portabella: A New Player in Neurotransmission Portabella: A New Player in Neurotransmission - David Krantz and colleagues report the discovery of portabella, a Drosophila gene that is structurally similar to known vesicular transporters and is expressed in mushroom body neurons that lack other known vesicular transporters. The deficits seen in Portabella mutants suggest that portabella may define a new neurotransmitter system critical for olfactory learning and male sexual behavior in Drosophila.
