Node Assembly & Maintenance - How do nodes of Ranvier assemble? Jim Salzer and colleagues find that node assembly is initiated by redistribution of mobile, surface pools of axonal adhesion molecules followed by transport of ion channels and cytoskeletal components to the site of node initiation. These mechanisms cooperate to form a highly stable node, with limited turnover of resident proteins.
