Prefrontal Cortex, Limbic System, and High Performance Controlling habit formation is a key medical need and a desirable feature of thoughtful behavior when habits could be harmful. This video describes optogenetic manipulations that rendered rats impervious to habit formation despite extensive training in the habit task and mentions ideas about the nature of this neural control.
