Tryptophan Biosynthesis Protects Mycobacteria from CD4 T-Cell-Mediated Killing Eric Rubin and colleagues describe how tuberculosis bacteria undergo metabolic adaptation to survive attempts by CD4 T cells to starve them of tryptophan. They identify a small-molecule inhibitor of tryptophan synthesis in the bacteria that then restores the the host immune defense.
