Translaminar Inhibitory Cells Recruited by Layer 6 Cortico-Thalamic Neurons

This Neuron video abstract describes a cortical pathway by which layer 6 cortico-thalamic neurons suppress cortical responses to visual stimuli. These neurons recruit fast-spiking inhibitory cells in the deeper layers, which then project large translaminar axons superficially to suppress all cortical layers.
