Ocean 180 - Wavechasers and the Samoan Passage. The Wavechasers team travels to Samoa (experiencing Samoan culture and hospitality while there) to measure an undersea river 5 km beneath the sea surface. They measured skyscraper-sized internal gravity waves at those great depths, which break to produce strong turbulence in the flow. Understanding these deep waves and flows is critical to improving climate models.
