Example of a Video Abstract Will rising concentrations of atmospheric CO2 encourage expansion of tropical mangroves and displacement of temperate salt marsh at their distributional boundaries? To answer this question, we experimentally examined species responses under ambient and elevated CO2 in a greenhouse setting using mesocosms of native soil and vegetation. The findings showed that simple models based on plant type (C3 vs. C4) and predicted response to CO2 may not accurately predict future species interactions.
